Fashion designer Rohit Bal aka Gudda talks about night life, hid favourite Bollywood muse, the casting couch, multiple Fashion Weeks and much more...
After a long night, Rohit Bal chose to sleep in late. He greeted the day dressed in a baby pink T-shirt, white capris and green suede loafers, while sipping a nimbu soda, his mobile phone on silent mode. Cell phone on silent mode... Life was definitely calmer without the cell phone. But who wants calm? I want action. Action in Chennai... I havent been here long enough, but Ive been to some really happening places in the city and Ive heard that Chennai is abuzz with activity.
Night life... I dont go out too much these days. Ive grown out of it. Theres more to life than meeting the same people everyday. I prefer to visit people at their homes and spend time with the people I care about. People I love to be with... I chill out with close friends or absolutely new people. I like to meet people from different fields and creative people who add a new perspective to life. Women buy clothes for men... Men dont have time, or care about what they wear. When it comes to ceremonies, men are asked to sit in the corner, while women take the decisions.
Men are henpecked... Normally, many men are bullied by their womenfolk. They are not only henpecked, but dont have the prowess to decide on fashion and home designing. Everyone aspires to be a Gudda... You get what you see. Im an open book and Im honest and straightforward. Thats probably what attracts people to me. Scrapping Section 377 of IPC... There are some sections that plan to take the issue to the Supreme Court. Its an archaic law and goes against the fundamental right of a person. The law is very intelligently crafted to include only consensual sex between adults and still protects children against molestation and rape. Whats scary... Lonliness! Not to have somebody to love is the scariest feeling. Im extremely fortunate to be with someone who loves me more than anyone else. No matter what one has achieved in life, its worthless if one doesnt have somebody to share it with. If I look a person in the eye... It means that they have more to offer than what they are wearing. If not, it means theres something hollow about them. So, I look at what they are wearing. There needs to be more to a person than what they wear. You are not what you wear you are what you feel. I feel good about .... Myself! I feel good that I can live the life Ive chosen and can be the person I want to be. I live life on my own terms and am a self-made person. A Bollywood star who desperately needs a makeover... Vidya Balan needs some help. She doesnt look nice in whatever she wears. Shes a beautiful woman and I think she should just stick to saris or Indian clothes. Casting couch... In the fashion industry, its models who gladly offer themselves, hoping for a break. But, no matter how much you try to use shortcuts, if youre not good enough, you wont make it. Chennai fashion week... Whats that? We need only one fashion week in the country. We have too many fashion weeks. So, we are going to try to register the term fashion week to ensure that there are one or two official fashion weeks. If I didnt have to go back to Delhi ... I would be down at Besant Nagar beach. After growing up in the hills of Kashmir, I have become a total beach person. Sometime, I hope to visit the incredible temples of the south.
